A city trip to Venice
Geplaatst op 22-09-2022
One of the most beautiful cities in the world, Venice, is located in the northeast of Italy. The city is a top tourist destination, so you should try to visit the beautiful city especially outside the high season. The old center of Venice has become known for the many canals of Venice and the 118 islands on which the city is built in the lagoon. Many day trippers do not go beyond the famous St. Mark's Square during their visit to Venice, but we hope to give you some tips on how to get the most out of your Venice city trip when you stay in Venice for a few days.
Venice Attractions
Of course, a visit to the famous St. Mark's Square (Piazza San Marco) should not be missed. The absolute top attraction is the Basilica of San Marco, which or St Mark's Basilica is beautifully built in Byzantine style and very richly decorated. The other major landmark on the square is the Palazzo Ducale, or Doge's Palace. The doge lived here at the time and the palace also served as town hall and court of justice. You can also climb the campanile tower of the St Mark's Basilica on St. Mark's Square for a magnificent view of Venice's sights.
Other highlights in the city
Not far from St. Mark's Square and St Mark's Basilica is the impressive La Fenice theatre, a great location to admire an opera. Then continue to Rialto Bridge, the main bridge over Venice's Grand Canal. Of course you can also explore the city with a traditional gondola, because actually the best way to experience Venice is from the water. In the morning at the Rialto Bridge you will find the Mercati di Rialto, the daily fresh market and from here you can easily walk to the Basilica di Santa Maria Gloriosa dei Frari, a beautiful church with a special work by Titian and behind the church is the Scuola Grande di San Rocco with beautiful murals by Tintoretto. Then continue your walk towards the Dorsoduro district, the student and cultural district of Venice. In this district you will find a number of charming churches and museums such as the Galleria dell'Accademia and the Peggy Guggenheim Collection. Finish the walk at the Punta della Dogana for beautiful views of the lagoon and the skyline of Venice's San Maro Square. Tip: Are you still looking for a hotel in Venice? Most Venice hotels are located near St. Mark's Square or in the Dorsoduro district. Both districts are ideal for exploring the city.
Discover Murano Burano Torcello
The other day you will use a boat trip to visit the picturesque islands in the lagoon of Venice like Murano Burano and Torcello. We recommend the combined boat trip to the islands of Murano Burano Torcello. These islands are known for their colorful houses and for their glassblowing art. With good weather you can take the most beautiful pictures on these islands and on the way you will pass other islands such as San Giorgio Maggiore in the lagoon. For longer stays you can even visit the beaches on the island of Lido di Venezia.
